COURSE FORMAT

The Postgraduate Certificate in Dental Implantology is a formally accredited postgraduate qualification, approved by the globally recognised regulated UK awarding body, EduQual. It allows for continuation of studies toward the Cambridge Academy of Dental Implantology's Postgraduate Diploma in Dental Implantology (PGDip).

The EduQual accredited PGCert is provided by the Cambridge Academy of Dental Implantology.  The Practical Skills Week and Clinical Cases Module are delivered in Australia by the Cambridge Academy of Dental Implantology in collaboration with The Implant Institute.

Successful completion of the program allows use of the letters PGCert (Dent Imp) after your name.  Alternatively you can continue your study for further learning to obtain the PGDip (Dent Imp) qualification.

 

This blended learning program provides training aimed at dentists who wish to undertake comprehensive didactic learning consisting of theoretical, practical and clinical components, with little, moderate or no level of previous experience in dental implantology.

The PGCert program comprises of 3 elements: 

1.  Online Theory Program (21st September 2020 - 28th March 2021)

2.  Practical Skills Week (TBA)

3.  Clinical Cases Module (TBA)

*4.  Optional Extracurricular Module (not part of the PGCert).

Online Theory (Terms 1 & 2) - taught as a Distance Learning program using our dedicated Canvas Online Learning Management System (LMS).  The program is delivered as on-demand weekly sessions with continual tutor feedback and discussion.  Assessment is by online coursework and essays.

Practical Skills Week (Term 3) - a 5 day pre-clinical program held, after completion of the Online Theory Program, in Perth, Western Australia.  Assessment is by OSCEs.

During the Practical Skills week delegates are taught all of the foundation skills required for dental implantology including: 

  • patient assessment & treatment planning

  • surgical gowning & gloving

  • computerised treatment planning (using CBCT software)

  • single and multiple unit implant placement (using bone models)

  • flap raising (using pig heads)

  • suturing techniques (using mucosa models and pig heads)

  • bone augmentation techniques (using pig heads)

  • prosthetic protocols

Clinical Cases Module - after successful completion of the Online Theory Program and the Practical Skills Week you will progress to the Clinical Cases Module.  After approval of treatment planning by your assigned tutor, you will treat your own patients under direct tutor supervision in either Perth, Brisbane or Sydney.  You must reach a pass grade in at least 3 cases.  These cases will be of basic or intermediate difficulty (pending clinical experience level), e.g. standard delayed or single immediate implant placement and restoration, and/or guided bone regeneration followed by implant placement and restoration.

* Optional Extracurricular Module - an additional opportunity from The Implant Institute, should you wish to learn more advanced topics in implantology including in hard and soft tissue considerations, immediate implant placement, sinus elevation procedures, PRF and phlebotomy training, and advanced prosthetic and surgical troubleshooting is available.  Please note that the Optional Extracurricular Module is not part of the PGCert and is not accredited by EduQual.

After successful completion of Elements 1-3, the Postgraduate Certificate in Dental Implantology - PGCert (Dent Imp) is awarded​

Course fee - A$17,300

(Module 1: A$7,500, Module 2: A$9800, 
Module 3: Treatment costs only, split between student and patient).
